Here is a sample resolution and its parts. Notes are written in blue.

Associated Students of University of California, Hastings College of Law
<Body that you are addressing>

Hastings Beach Beautification Project   <Title of Resolution>

Co-sponsored by: Richie Hom, 1L Rep., HBC (Hastings Beach Committee), APALSA, BSLA. La Raza, and ABA.
<Who is supporting this? Make sure you have at least one ASUCH member supporting it>

<Fact Section:  Give some background about the situation.  Start each assertion (paragraph) with a signal words (underlined words)>

Whereas, the Beach is an essential part to relaxation during the day,

Whereas, relaxation increases productivity of students,

Recognizing, that a Beach without sand, water, and palm trees is just a concrete lifeless slab,

Noting with concern, that maintaining the new beach will be very expensive,

Understanding, that funds to support a beach can be used to fund a coffee court in the 198 building

 <Action Section:  What do you want ASUCH to do about it?>

1. Therefore, be it resolved that ASUCH will lobby the administration to consider plans to beautify the Beach,

<ASUCH should speak to people for you>

2. Be it further resolved that ASUCH allocate $20 to HBC to fund an intial project assessment,

<ASUCH should fund you>

3. Be it further resolved that ASUCH send a statement to the student body for help on the Beach project.

<ASUCH should send a statement>
