A Resolution Encouraging the Student Body of UC Hastings to Refrain from Interviewing with Organizations not in Compliance with UC Hastings’ Non-Discrimination Policy
Passed: Wednesday, February 18th, 2004
Recognizing that UC Hastings maintains a policy which precludes discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation;
Noting that all On Campus Interviewing, Public Interest Public Sector Day and Meet the Advocates participants are expected to comply with Hastings’ non-discrimination policy;
Realizing that the recruiters for legal corps of the United States Armed Services refuse to comply with the non-discrimination policy;
Acknowledging that it is an honor to serve in the United States Armed Forces and veterans and reservists of the US Military make an essential contribution to Hastings’ community;
Understanding that the Solomon Amendment precludes Hastings from barring these recruiters, even in the face of their intransigence to our established policy, by threatening to withhold certain types of federal funding, forcing the school to adopt a hypocritical posture;
Be it Resolved that ASUCH encourages the student body of Hastings to stand in solidarity with those denied the opportunity to serve in the United States Armed Forces because of the Military’s policy of discrimination based on sexual orientation by condemning the policy of the military, and by refraining from interviewing with the Army and Air Force who will be on campus on February 24th and March 12th respectively. © Copyright 2004 by MyHastings.org |
